The reviews about this sushi restaurant are fantastic: “The food is divine”. The décor is stunning as well: orchids, low-line furniture; you can almost ‘feel’ the textures of glass, leather and dark wood at play. The reality is that you could be in London, New York or Tokyo with its chic, modern décor but it is a breath of fresh air for Cayman residents.
However, Yoshi is not all style over substance: “the sushi is sublime”. Maki rolls are “lightly vinegared” and a “sweet, crisp coated prawn” is “benchmark tempura”. An extremely notable dish is the Sesame Sea Scallops with a shitake mushroom sauce – grilled peppers, leeks and scallops come on a sizzling hot plate with sauce so good you want a side of rice to soak up the flavour. Yoshi’s is the ultimate sushi experience that you don’t want to miss! Be sure to make a reservation in advance as it is always very busy. Chef Irving and his team work hard to create fantastic boats of sushi, sashimi, rolls and bowls. The food is incredibly fresh and beautifully presented.
The menu is extensive with something on it for everyone, from extremely imaginative sushi combinations and rolls, through to their noodle bowls and Hibachi items. Try one of their boats if you can’t decide. Then you can just sit back and enjoy the ambience. The staff are very friendly, relaxed and unassuming, the wine and sake lists are extensive and well priced, the “beer authentic and freezing cold” and the dinner menu is full of the usual favourites as well as specials suggested by Chef Irving himself. Busy, fun, with good food, friendly staff and knock-out décor – if you feel like having Japanese cuisine, then glamorous, celebratory, modern and affordable Yoshi is definitely worth a try.
